Office of the Taumoana

Certainly, our journey this year has been full of astonishing blessings, although in the usual course of things we are not exempted from the seeming challenges encountered along the way. Nonetheless significant and historical decisions were made by our Pacific Church Leaders, with regards to the future direction of our peculiar institution for higher theological learning here in the Pacific region – particularly the transition from the 60th year old Pacific Theological College to our newly established PASIFIKA COMMUNITIES UNIVERSITY Home of ‘Whole of Life’ Education. To God be the glory! Having said that, I’m reminded of a presentation made by our very own Reverend Professor Upolu Lumā Vaai during the global pandemic some five years ago, where he cited an illustration relevant to the ‘Whole of Life’ concept, and how he had spoken of the ongoing struggle of trying to encompass two distinctive worlds that of living experiences, and on the other hand, academic theory. More than often, we refer to this as the ongoing tension between the “practical” and the “theoretical.” However, in endeavoring to find a median between these extremities, is to indubitably apply this ‘Whole of Life’ perception, which has appropriately underscored the hard-work and time-consuming efforts by the few forerunners propagating this new idea for learning. How blessed is this year’s inaugural graduating class of our new university to be among the first lot to have experienced this ‘Whole of Life’ viewpoint and to have heard directly the actualizing of a long-time dream for our Pacific communities ~ to take our establishments for higher education to higher plateaus. y final thought – may the ‘Whole of Life’ belief, now proliferated within our Pasifika milieu be more than just another scholastic exercise or campus slogan but rather be a strong affirmation or a powerful statement of the importance of embracing the “wholeness” of those virtues and qualities by which PCU has been established and will for ages to come, be its solid foundation!

Rev. Elder Dr. Leatulagi T. Faalevao Taumoana (Chancellor)

I want to commend all stakeholders – faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of PCU (formerly PTC), that have long been ardently patient and munificent in giving of their precious time and priceless resources in helping establish our university. God’s blessings be upon all of you all. With every good wish.
