About the Role
The Pasifika Communities University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Ecumenism to join its School of Theology and Ecumenism. (SOTE) This is a unique opportunity to shape theological education across the Pacific by designing and delivering new Bachelor and Postgraduate Diploma Courses in Ecumenism. The successful candidate will lead curriculum development in Semester 1,2026 guide the internal university accreditation process, and prepare for external accreditation through the South Pacific Association of Theological Schools (SPATS). Approved courses will be delivered in Semester 2. 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Bachelor of Ecumenism and postgraduate diploma courses in Ecumenism for Semester 1 2026
- Embed the Whole of Life Leadership pathway in Pasifika Education vision into postgraduate course design
- Embed and exemplify a culture of collaborative endeavour, sum total thinking in brining about coherence in course development, design and congruence across Schools, Institutes and Centre.
- Course design acumen to embed research and publication pathways and the centrality of member churches interests
- Pedagogy development and alignment promoting school, institute, centre and interdisciplinary coherence in courses and course offerings
- An innovator and advocate for the supremacy of collective design ethos in course design promoting the success of the sum total of the necessary course design pieces that promote sum total rather than a fragmented course design approach
- Ability to write postgraduate courses that are transferable into online distance and blended models of instruction and delivery.
- Lead internal university accreditation processes for new curriculum
- Prepare documentation and liaise with SPATS for external accreditation
- Actively participate in inter-disciplinary course writing with SERD (School of Ecology and Resilience Development) and SPPES (School of Pasifika Philosophies, Education and Sciences.
- Deliver accredited courses in Semester 2 2026
- Teach and supervise postgraduate students in ecumenical and contextual theology
- Conduct scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed journals
- Engage with Pacific church networks, theological colleges/universities and ecumenical bodies
- Contribute to Facilitators of Learning governance, curriculum review, and community outreach
- Actively participate in Bilum (School) based Fund raising activities
- Actively support Toloa (students) in scholarly pursuit. And ever increasing Toloa (student) enrolment numbers.
- Any other duties assigned by the Head of Bilum (School) of Theology and Ecumenism
Qualifications
- PhD in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field with a focus on Ecumenism
- Experience in curriculum design and academic program development
- Familiarity with accreditation processes, especially SPATS or similar bodies
- Proven teaching experience at tertiary level
- Strong understanding of Pacific Island cultures, churches, interdenominational dynamics
- Evidence of research and publication in ecumenical or contextual theology
- Excellent communication and intercultural skills
Desirable Attributes
- Experience working with Pacific theological institutions or ecumenical Colleges
- Knowledge of indigenous theological perspectives and oral traditions
- Ability to teach in English and one or more Pacific languages
Pastoral or ministerial background is an asset.

A Lecturer is:
- A Facilitator of Learning normally reporting to a Senior Lecturer in delivering core outcomes within a School and predominantly within a department i.e. Teaching & Learning, initiating face to face, blended and online pedagogy, Research & Publications, Research supervision, Research Grants and Projects, Fundraising, Consultancy, Scholarly works, Administration, fostering the international representation of the University through conferences, symposia and workshops. And promoting the vision of the University in any regional and international forum;
- The incumbent is also directly responsible for transforming the said core outcomes within a School into a Communities based:” whole of life learning that integrates communities’ knowledge and models of learning that are aligned to the cultures and spiritualities of Pasifika people;
- Embed the Whole of Life Leadership pathway in Pasifika Education vision into postgraduate course design.
- Responsible for aligning the transformation of the said core outcomes to address economic, social, environmental, theological, ecumenical and spiritual capacities to effectively address the multi-faceted issues faced by Pasifika communities/. And to promote pragmatic replicable resolution options;
- Facilitates excellent, adaptable and innovative practices in the transfer of critical skills and knowledge to members of staff under their charge and students at the University.

3.Operational Responsibilities
TEACHING & LEARNING
- the conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student communities learning, clinical sessions, and studio sessions,
- involvement in professional activities like the initiation and development of subject or course material; the preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars; marking and assessment; subject or course coordination, communities-based learning engagement.
