TOLOA ASSOCIATION (STUDENT BODY)

Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Bula vinaka, Kia ora, Muari, Halo Olgeta, Gutpela Dei, Wadray, and warm Pasifika greetings.

On behalf of the Toloa Association, the Student Body of Pasifika Communities University (PCU), we extend warm greetings and heartfelt peace to all who enter this vibrant community of learning and service. We honor the spiritual and cultural diversity of our region and embrace all who seek wisdom, wholeness, and understanding — each according to their faith, values, and heritage. As students from across the Islands of the Pasifika region, we are united in our commitment to education, mutual care, and respectful dialogue.

Who We Are

The Toloa Association is the official student body of Pasifika Communities University. More than a representative council, we are a living community of learners, families, and future leaders. Rooted in the values of shared responsibility, cultural respect, and spiritual openness, we aim to foster a space where all students feel supported, heard, and connected — regardless of background or belief.

Our Purpose and Values

The Toloa Association works to:

  • Represent and advocate for student needs and interests in all areas of university life.
  • Support the well-being and development of our diverse student community.
  • Celebrate and uphold the cultural and spiritual traditions of the Pasifika region.
  • Promote interfaith and intercultural understanding through dialogue and shared activities.
  • Build strong relationships among students, staff, and the wider community through service and fellowship.

Campus Life and Student Engagement

Throughout the year, the Toloa Association leads a wide range of initiatives that enrich community life and promote student wellness. These include:

  • Working Bees: Collaborative campus care and maintenance, promoting stewardship and teamwork
  • Wellness Fridays: Dedicated time for physical, emotional, and spiritual renewal
  • Sports Day: Celebrating unity and joy through friendly competition and Pasifika hospitality
  • Choir and Music Gatherings: Weekly sessions that honour the storytelling and spiritual music traditions of our peoples
  • Fellowship Trips: Opportunities for cultural immersion, reflection, and relationship-building
  • Community Projects: Student-led contributions to campus and local initiatives, embodying a spirit of service

These activities are open to all students and reflect our shared commitment to a holistic educational experience.

Constitutional Framework

The Toloa Association is governed by a student-developed Constitution, last revised in October 2024. This document outlines our structure, principles, and processes for ensuring inclusive, democratic, and effective leadership. It serves as a guide for how we work together as a diverse yet united body.

Membership and Participation

Membership in the Toloa Association is inclusive and open to all students:

  • Active Members: Full-time students enrolled in programs such as BD, BD Hons, MTh, PhD, WFDP, and PgDip
  • Associate Members: Student spouses, live-in part-time students, and full-time PTCEE Certificate/Diploma students (limited voting rights)
  • Corresponding Members: Part-time, off-campus PTCEE students (non-voting participants unless opting into full membership)

Students of all faiths and traditions are welcome to participate and contribute to the life of the Association

Membership Contributions

Annual membership fees help support the work and activities of the Association:

  • Active Members: $100 FJD
  • Associate Members: Partial or no fee, depending on category
  • Women’s Fellowship Contribution: $40 FJD (invoiced to sponsoring churches), recognizing the integral role of spouses in campus life

All contributions are coordinated through the University’s Finance Office and reviewed as needed.

A Community of Many Cultures and Faiths

At Pasifika Communities University, the Toloa Association embodies the values of shared purpose, cultural pride, and respectful coexistence. While rooted in a Christian and ecumenical foundation, we welcome the wisdom, traditions, and perspectives of all who join our learning community. We believe in the strength of unity through diversity, and in the power of dialogue and collaboration to shape meaningful change.

“We are many voices, many cultures, many faiths — journeying together in respect, learning, and shared purpose.”
