This role oversees the development, production, and distribution of scholarly and cultural publications—including books, academic journals, edited volumes, and other printed and digital works that reflect the voices, knowledge systems, and creative expressions of Pasifika communities.
- Strategic Responsibilities
The Press Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping the university’s publishing strategy, systems, policies, procedures and processes ensuring editorial excellence, cultural integrity, and global reach that are grounded on the following pillars:
a. to produce and encourage the voice of the Pasifika household of God to be heard;
b. to overcome the high cost of publishing, production and distribution and to provide easy and affordable access to materials controlled by the global market and publishing houses;
c. to encourage young scholars and researchers to publish and share their research with the world;
d. Develop and implement the university’s publishing strategy in alignment with academic and centrality of university owner Churches goals;
e. Foster partnerships with authors, editors, scholars, and community leaders across the Pacific region.
- Operational Responsibilities
f. Editorial Oversight
- Supervise the editorial process for books, journals, and edited collections—from proposal to publication.
- Ensure all publications meet high standards of academic rigor, cultural sensitivity, and editorial quality.
g. Production & Distribution
- Manage workflows for print and digital production, including layout, design, proofreading, and printing.
- Oversee distribution channels, including online platforms, bookstores, and academic networks.
h. Team & Vendor Management
- Lead a team of editors, designers, and freelance contributors;
- Liaise with external printers, distributors, and digital publishing platforms;
i. Budget & Reporting
- Prepare and manage budgets for publishing projects.
- Track performance metrics and prepare reports for university leadership.
j. Innovation & Outreach
- Explore new publishing formats and technologies.
- Promote publications through events, media, and academic networks.
k. University Niche
- Cultivate and explore the feasibility of a commercial publishing niche model to grow the capacity for income generation opportunities;
And any other duties assigned by the Dean of Research and Strategic Partnerships.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Publishing, Communications, Literature, Pacific Studies, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in publishing, editorial management, or university press operations.
- Strong understanding of academic publishing standards and copyright law.
- Demonstrated commitment to Pasifika cultures, languages, and knowledge systems.
- Excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with publishing software and digital platforms.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience working with community-based publications.
- Familiarity with open-access publishing models.
- Fluency in one or more Pasifika languages is a plus.

Strategic and Operational financial management standards, systems, procedures and processes that uphold financial due diligence in all facets of financial management practices and rules required by the University.

The creation of new University policies programmers through face to face, blended and fully on-line mode that exemplify the vision of the University. Policies, Programmers’ and course offerings that are communities based “whole of life” transformative, that integrates communities’ knowledge and models of learning which are aligned to the cultures and spiritualities of the people.”
