Remembering Dr. Kafoa Solomone
We mourn the passing of Dr. Kafoa Solomone, one of the longest-serving faculty members of what is now Pasifika Communities University.
For over 20 years, Dr. Solomone gave his heart and wisdom to the Pacific Churches. He served as Academic Dean for 15 years and as Senior Lecturer in Theology and Ethics for 8 years at the Pacific Theological College. Even after retiring in 2013 and returning home to Tonga, he never stopped teaching, mentoring, and serving the wider Pacific community with humility and grace.
Many who studied under him or worked alongside him remember him not only for his scholarship, but for his character:
“A man of substance and integrity… I miss him greatly.” – Prof. Feleteriak Nokise
“A steady hand as Dean through difficult times. Honest, humble, and wise.” – Dr. Russell Day
“A great scholar and ecumenical leader… always a joy to work with.” – Radini Titilia Vakadewavosa
“Respected for his boldness, intellect, Pacific insights, humility, and great service.” – Rev. Taniela Baleinakorodawa
“Both my supervisor and my friend – a humble man.” – Rev. Ikani Tolu
“He shaped my academic career.” – Dr. Edward Kolohai
“A wonderful mentor during my studies.” – Rev. James Bhagwan.
We give thanks for his life, his service, and his legacy to the churches and people of the Pacific. May he rest in God’s everlasting peace.
